A New Year Start at BMES...

Evening all. Happy New Year!! Hope everyone's had a fantastic Christmas and a Happy New year. Today saw me on my first railway outing of 2019, a trip to the Riverside Miniature Railway operated by the Burton Model Engineering Society to which I am a working member of. I arrived on site at around 10:40am and found the gate was already open with members unloading their engines onto the raised level track steaming bay. After locking up my bike. I popped into the club house itself said hello to the ladies in the club house before heading back outside. It wasn't long before one of the two battery electric diesels was running round the raised level. I was offered a ride on the raised track behind the diesel and after 4 laps i got off and started to get some photos.
It wasn't long before the first steamer was on the raised level track in the form of a LMS 0-6-0 3F Jinty No.7464 under the ownership of K.Bloor the chairman of the BoT M.E.S (Burton-on-Trent Model Engineering Society). The next raised level steam loco would be a 0-4-0 Polly Saddle tank "Trojan" based on the full size equivalent based at Didcot Railway Centre, owned by D.Elliot.
I managed to get a few photos of most the engines running on the raised level track. With the exception of a Battery electric Class 08 Shunter. Alongside these, there was also an LNER locomotive that was in steam briefly but wasn't running on the track itself and was being tested on a rolling road which can be seen in the photo below. No. 254 "George Stephenson", a 4-6-2 LNER Pacific.
One locomotive that was steamed in the steaming bay but sadly failed minutes into its steaming was a Polly 2-6-0 tank engine called "Rosie" in Red with white lining. Which can be spotted in the background on the photo below. After a couple of hours, Colin decide to come off with his diesel and soon after David called it a day with Trojan. Both Trojan and Rosie can bee seen sat in the Afternoon sunlight in the steaming bay.
The 3F was shortly joined by a 3 1/2 inch gauge Stanier Mogul 2-6-0 tender locomotive in BR unlined Black which can be seen raising steam. After a few trainee driver turns, Keith decided to call it a day with his Jinty and proceeded to start the task of dropping the fire on his engine.
Colin came back on the raised level track with his brown diesel shunter locomotive and briefly shared the raised level track with the Class 08 before that retired for the day and with the Stanier mogul which sadly didn't run long before coming off.
I'd like to take the time to thank everyone for this New Years Day 'Steam Up' and wish all my readers a Happy New Year. Hopefully 2019 will provide some interesting things for us in the steam circles. Until next time...bye...Jake...
